  • Chemical Family:Phenol & Cresol Epoxy Resins (Novolac)
  • Product Functions:Binder, Resin, Resins, Binders & Matrix Materials
  • Product End Uses:Electronics, Laminates, Surface Coating, Tooling Systems
  • Processing & Application Methods:Casting, Coating, Filament Winding, Fluid Bed Coating, Lamination, Vacuum Bagging
  • Glass Transition Temperature (Tg):200.0 °C
  • Product Features:Chemical Resistance, Excellent Thermal Properties, Good Solvent Resistance, Improved Mechanical Resistance, Solvent Resistance, Thermal Resistance

ARALDITE® ECN 1273 is a polyepoxide resin produced by reacting epichlorohydrin with an ortho-cresol formaldehyde novolac. The molecular weight of the novolac controls the resin’s molecular weight and functionality, which ranges from 2.5 to 5.5 reactive groups per molecule. Unlike conventional bisphenol-A based epoxy resins, this polyepoxide offers multiple reactive sites, enhancing crosslinking density and performance.

  • Chemical Family:Glycidyl Ethers
  • Product End Uses:2K (2 component) Coating, Coil Coating, Floor Coatings, Pipe Coating, Pre-pregs, Primers, Tank Linings, Waterborne Coating
  • Material Compatibility:Polyamine Polymers
  • Product Features:Chemical Resistance, Corrosion Resistance, Heat Resistance, High Crosslinking, High Performance, High Temperature Resistance, Solvent Resistance

ARALDITE® EPN 1180 epoxy phenol novolac resins contain more than two epoxy groups per molecule, classifying them as multifunctional epoxy resins. Due to the increased epoxy functionality, EPN resins provide a high cross-link density when properly cured. Systems based on ARALDITE® EPN 1180 epoxy phenol novolac resins offer better chemical and high-temperature resistance compared to those based on standard bisphenol A epoxy resins. EPN resins are recommended for high-performance applications requiring good chemical and solvent resistance. When combined with suitable curing agents (such as polyamines, novolacs, and anhydrides), they can be used as the sole resin or blended with bisphenol A and F epoxy resins to enhance the performance of the latter. EPN resins can be used in two-component, room-temperature cure, forced-cure, or heat-cure systems. Solvent-containing, high-solids, solvent-free, or waterborne coatings can be formulated. The heat-curable systems deliver ultimate performance (chemical and thermal resistance) due to more complete reactions with curing agents at higher temperatures, overcoming the stearic hindrance of multifunctional epoxy resins.
