EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B

EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B is a two-component, low-density, fast-cure, FST-rated epoxy adhesive and void filler designed for insert potting, ditch potting, and edge filling/reinforcing of honeycomb structures used in aerospace interior applications. Both EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B are very soft pastes, which can be easily mixed and applied manually or by dual cartridge with static mixer. EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B sets very quickly at room temperature and can be sanded shortly after application. It is well-suited for aerospace applications requiring low density, high strength, and rapid component assembly.

Features & Benefits

Ready-to-Use Product Features
Coating
Cured EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B has a high surface tension of > 72 dyne/cm. It can be coated with various types of organic and water-borne adhesives, paints, inks, etc. with excellent results.
Features
  • Meets FST Requirements
  • Fast Cure
  • 1 Year Shelf Life
  • Excellent Off Ratio Tolerance
  • Maximum 0.74 g/cc Density
  • High Strength and High Modulus
  • Easy Application with Manual Mixing, Dual Cartridge, or Meter Mix Equipment
Machinability
EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B provides excellent sand-ability once hardened. The minimum cure time prior to sanding will depend on the mass of EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B being used and on the actual ambient temperature. For a typical 0.25 inches thick honeycomb sandwich edge-fill, sand-able time is about 2 - 3 hours.

  • EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B void filler can reduce total costs by up to 30% for the application of core reinforcement materials due to its low material density. Compared to competitive products, it is up to 12% lighter, with double the shelf-life to further reduce inventory costs. It also meets FAA flame, smoke and toxicity (FST) requirements for aerospace interiors. Assembly productivity can be increased by up to 50% with EPOCAST® 1649-1 A/B void filler. It provides a simple 2:1 mix ratio, off-ratio mixing tolerance, and allows parts to be cured, sanded and completed in just one working shift.
